DENTAL BRIDGES

A dental bridge is a reliable solution for replacing one or more missing teeth, literally “bridging” the gap in your smile. It’s made up of one or more artificial teeth (pontics) securely supported by crowns on either side, which are attached to your natural teeth or dental implants. This restoration not only restores function but also helps maintain the natural shape and appearance of your smile.

How dental bridges work

To fit a dental bridge, your dentist will gently prepare the teeth on either side of the gap by reshaping them to hold supporting crowns. We then take precise scans of your mouth to create a custom bridge designed to match your natural bite and tooth colour. Once ready, the bridge is securely cemented in place—restoring your smile’s appearance and making it easier to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

Types of Dental Bridges

  • Traditional Bridge : The most common type of bridge, where crowns are placed on the healthy teeth on either side of the gap, with a replacement tooth (pontic) in between. This option works best when the neighbouring teeth are strong and healthy.
  • Cantilever Bridge : Used when there’s only one healthy tooth next to the gap. Since it’s supported on one side only, it’s typically placed in areas with less chewing pressure, such as the front of the mouth.
  • Maryland Bridge : A more conservative solution that uses a metal or porcelain framework bonded to the back of the adjacent teeth to hold the replacement tooth in place. This is often a preferred choice for replacing front teeth.
  • Implant-Supported Bridge : Instead of attaching to natural teeth, this type is anchored securely with dental implants. It’s an excellent option for replacing several missing teeth in a row, offering strength, stability, and a natural look.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

  • Restore Function – Fill the gaps left by missing teeth, allowing you to chew and speak with ease.
  • Enhance Your Smile – Improve the appearance of your teeth and boost your confidence.
  • Maintain Alignment – Prevent surrounding teeth from shifting out of place, preserving your bite and oral health.
  • Long-Lasting Solution – With the right care, dental bridges can serve you well for many years.
